By: Brandin Hess, VA6ILS / WB1BR
Dated: March 23rd, 2022
Attention all prospective and current amateur radio licensees!
The Federal Communications Commission announced an effective date for the $35 licensing fee that is in addition to any exam fees imposed by a Volunteer Examiner Coordinator. This new fee is effective Tuesday, April 19th, 2022. To read the Public Notice, please see the link below:
Public Notice DA-22-307
Please keep in mind you will have to pay the FCC mandated fee for the following actions relating to your amateur radio license:
a.) Obtaining a new amateur radio license,
b.) Upgrading your license,
c.) Applying for a vanity callsign,
d.) Changing your callsign systematically,
e.) Changing the name on your amateur radio license, and
f.) Renewing your license.
The only action that will not require the $35 fee will be any address change or update to your telephone number or email address on file with the FCC.
To accommodate this upcoming implementation, the Aurora Amateur Radio Group is prepared to offer extended sessions and also add more sessions to our schedule. We hope you take the time to get your license, or upgrade before the new fee takes effect!
